Mel Carreras was a wire-to-wire winner in the 55–64yrs group. Mel opened with a 70 (-1), taking a one-stroke lead over Steve Champagne, and a two-shot margin over Peter Donovan into the second round. But when Mel shot 68 in round 2 (the best score of the day by 3 strokes!), his final total of 138 (-4) gave him a whopping 9-stroke margin of victory over a trio of players. Steve Champagne (71-76), Steve Christo (76-71), and Henry Liu (75-72) all tied for 2nd at 147 (+5). In the Championship Flight, Jack Pawloski and Tommy Benjes will be trying to defend the title they won last year when they take on Garrett Johnson and Dave Nardella in the finals on Monday.
